There are certain topics that hit home hard. I worked very hard for many years on the anti-tobacco advocacy and after writing my next speech for communications about depression and suicide I decided it is about time I got involved in helping in any way I can. Depression is one that really hits home because I myself have struggled with it and about half of my family struggles with it. Way too many people are unaware of the seriousness of it and I realized that it's time for me to help educate more than just my speech class. I am going through the process of applying to get a chapter at BSU of To Write Love on Her Arms- a nonprofit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. Each issue is incredibly important to me as I have been affected by all of them- not all directly, but by other people I know who have struggled with addiction and self-injury and by people I know who saw no other way out except suicide. I am hoping beyond all hope that I will be able to start this chapter up and get others involved and educated. This is something I am incredibly passionate about and I want to be able to get involved as much as I possibly can. I would love your support in this new and important step I hope to be able to take. I'll be sure to keep you all up to date as things happen. It's going to be a crazy adventure and I'm so excited to feel that high I get from knowing I'm helping make a difference, even if it's just one person I touch. It's insane how loud one voice can be. I learned that from my time spent with the Magic Valley Tobacco-Free Coalition. Even if the chapter at BSU doesn't happen, I want to be able to help out in anyway I can. I sincerly urge you to get involved in something like this as well. =] Visit http://www.twloha.com/move to find out how you can help out or get involved with TWLOHA. Don't ever underestimate the impact you can have on others. Get educated about important issues like depression. Learn as much as you possibly can. Knowledge is power. And last but definately not least, don't judge what you don't understand, just love. =]
Thank you all for taking the time to read about something this important to me. I love you all for it =] xoxo Taylor
